EELA Zambia's "Industrial Energy Efficiency through Energy Efficient Motor Systems" Workshop
Organized by the EELA Zambia Country Window, the "Industrial Energy Efficiency through Energy-Efficient Motor Systems" workshop brings together industries and technology providers to identify practical energy-saving opportunities in motor-driven systems.
Participants will discover proven interventions that improve motor performance, reduce operating costs, and boost industrial competitiveness.
11 FEBRUARY 2026, TAJ PAMODZI HOTEL LUSAKA, ZAMBIA
08:30 am – 12:30 pm CAT
Why Are High‑Efficiency Motors Critical for Industrial Performance?
Industrial motors underpin most manufacturing operations in Africa and can account for as much as 70% of electricity use in industry. As a result, motor performance has a significant impact on operating costs: inefficient motors increase energy expenditure, whereas efficient models reduce it immediately.
Upgrading motor systems is one of the continent’s largest untapped efficiency opportunities. Moving from IE1 to IE2 or IE2 to IE3 typically cuts electricity consumption by 15–20%. Since motors influence 20–30% of a factory’s total electricity bill, even modest efficiency improvements translate into significant cost reductions.
Across 15 African countries analysed, adopting high‑efficiency motors could save industries over USD 1.5 billion per year—resources that can be reinvested in productivity, jobs, and innovation.

Our Goals
The workshop objectives include:
- Share practical, industry-based insights on energy-saving opportunities in motor systems, including the energy efficient motors, VSDs, harmonics management, and related operational measures.
- Present case studies and lessons learned from comparable industrial facilities, highlighting realized performance improvements and cost savings.
- Enable industries to complete an energy-efficiency survey and receive a free, facility-specific motor energy-savings assessment.
