Kenya Country Window
The EELA Kenya Country Window is a transformative initiative designed to foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth through integrated energy efficiency (EE) strategies, solutions and equipment. The project focuses on accelerating the adoption of energy efficient appliances, promoting investments in the low-carbon transformation of the industrial sector, and enhancing skills for repair, maintenance, and end-of-life treatment of energy-efficient equipment.
This initiative supports the implementation of Kenya's National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy (NEECS) 2020, aligning with the country's ambitious goals of achieving universal energy access and transitioning to 100% renewable energy by 2030. Within the strategy, energy efficiency (EE) is recognized as one of the most cost-effective solutions for reducing energy demand, improving access to energy, and making energy more affordable in Kenya's industrial and residential sectors.
Why the EELA Kenya Country Window Matters:
The EELA Kenya Country Window is a key step towards creating a sustainable energy future. By integrating energy-efficient practices, the project contributes to poverty reduction, decarbonization, and improved living standards for all Kenyans, especially the most vulnerable communities.

Project Outcomes
Boosting Adoption of EE Appliances
The EELA Kenya Country Window Project leverages the regional EELA framework to strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks, including the enforcement of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), thereby establishing a robust foundation for sustainable energy practices. It also prioritizes private sector engagement, with a particular focus on developing the Energy Service Company (ESCO) market to drive innovation and investment in energy efficiency. Simultaneously, the project emphasizes capacity building among key market actors, enhancing their ability to implement energy-efficient solutions effectively.
Establishing a Private Sector Industry Clean-Tech Platform
A dedicated platform, the Industry Clean-Tech Platform (ICTP), will accelerate the adoption of clean technologies in industries, beginning with a pilot initiative in the tea sector. The ICTP will serve as a one-stop shop for integrating energy management systems by connecting users with technology suppliers and financial opportunities. It will also offer training and support services to promote sustainable industrial growth and environmental stewardship.
Enhancing Skills for EE Equipment Management
The EELA Kenya Country Window Project aims to improve the repair and maintenance of off-grid solutions, including solar home systems and refrigerators. It will also train local entrepreneurs in partnership with TVET institutions. Additionally, the EELA Kenya Country Window will pilot digital solutions, including virtual reality applications, to make training programs more accessible and reach a wider audience.
Awareness Raising and Communication
The EELA Kenya Country Window Project raises awareness about the benefits of energy efficiency (EE) initiatives using a gender-responsive strategy. The organization uses various outreach methods, such as social media, media templates, and stakeholder roundtables, to emphasize the advantages of EE, MEPS, labels, and PUE appliances. EELA Kenya also participates in annual energy efficiency conferences to facilitate networking and collaboration among stakeholders in energy supply, industry demand, and finance
