ECOWAS Working Group Launch: Harmonizing Lighting and Appliance Test Procedures

On 17 Dec 2025, ECOWAS launches two Technical Working Groups to harmonize appliance testing and recognition frameworks, boosting regional energy efficiency.

On 17 December 2025 (09:00–10:00 GMT-1), the ECOWAS Appliances Test and Label Working Group (EATLWG) will hold its inception meeting to advance regional energy efficiency standards. Organized by ECREEE with support from UNIDO under the EELA Program, the meeting will officially launch two Technical Working Groups (TWGs) focused on harmonizing test procedures and developing mutual recognition frameworks for lighting and cooling appliances. These efforts aim to strengthen compliance, reduce trade barriers, and accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient technologies across ECOWAS Member States.

Key objectives include introducing members, validating Terms of Reference and work plans, and agreeing on next steps for Q1 2026, including diagnostic mapping and stakeholder consultations.

Target participants: EELA focal points, National Standards Bodies, technical experts from testing laboratories, and ECREEE/UNIDO teams.
