On Wednesday, 13 August 2025, the Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (EELA) Kenya Country Window held its second Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting virtually.

The meeting was opened by the PSC co-chairs from the State Departments of Industry and Energy. In his remarks, the Industrialization Secretary, and PSC co-chair, Prof. Erastus Gatebe, reaffirmed the Ministry’s and Government’s strong support for the project and thanked UNIDO for its engagement.

Eng. Isaac Kiva, Secretary for Renewable Energy and PSC co-chair, highlighted the timely alignment of the project with national initiatives such as the submission of the National Energy Policy, with a chapter on energy efficiency, and the ongoing development of the Kenya National Energy Compact, which emphasizes generation, electricity, access to clean cooking and energy efficiency.

A key milestone of the session was the presentation and unanimous approval of the 2025/2026 work plan and budget. With this endorsement, the project officially moves into the implementation phase, turning plans into action to promote energy-efficient solutions in Kenya’s productive sectors.

The approval signifies strengthened collaboration among key stakeholders and sets the stage for rolling out activities that will stimulate inclusive sustainable economic growth through Energy Efficiency interventions.
