<p>Denis Ariho is the Lead Technical Expert for the EAC region on Energy Efficient Lighting and Appliances (EELA) Project, seconded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). He is based at the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE). Prior to joining EACREEE, he worked as Technical Advisor for GIZ Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (PREEEP) in Kampala, Uganda. He has 10 years’ experience in the energy sector.</p>
<p>The EELA project aims to create market and institutional conditions to enable a transformation of the sector to stimulate increased diffusion of energy efficient lighting products and appliances across all sectors in East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) Regions. The key outputs of the EELA Project are: development of regionally harmonized Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and support to the implementation of MEPS for lighting and appliances for lighting and appliances in both Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African Community (EAC); support to the private sector to increase market for energy efficient lighting and appliances. Denis’ main role is to coordinate EELA project activities in the EAC region.</p>
