EELA Zimbabwe Launches Free EnMS & ISO 50001 Training Workshops for Industry
EELA Zimbabwe is pleased to announce the launch of a series of free training workshops on Energy Management Systems (EnMS) aligned with ISO 50001 and aimed at strengthening energy efficiency practices across the country’s industrial sector. The training programme is implemented in collaboration with the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) and forms part of EELA’s broader efforts to support industries in reducing energy costs, improving operational performance, and enhancing competitiveness through structured energy management.
WHO THE TRAINING IS FOR
The training is designed for decision-makers, industrial companies, and technical professionals and is delivered through two training tracks:
- EnMS and ISO 50001 Awareness Training for Key Market Actors and Decision‑Makers
This track focuses on building strategic awareness of energy management, strengthening leadership understanding, and increasing interest in energy efficiency investments at senior management level. - Expert‑Level EnMS and ISO 50001 Technical Training for Professionals
This advanced training is tailored for engineers, energy managers, and production and technical teams. It provides hands‑on skills to design, implement, and sustain Energy Management Systems, enabling participants to translate theory into bankable and implementable energy efficiency projects.
WHY ENMS MATTERS FOR ZIMBABWEAN INDUSTRY
Energy is consistently among the top three operating costs for industrial facilities. Implementing an ISO 50001‑aligned EnMS allows companies to systematically identify significant energy users, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvements. Typical outcomes include energy savings of 5–20% within two to three years, alongside improved production reliability.
In Zimbabwe’s context of constrained and variable energy supply, EnMS plays a critical role in enhancing operational resilience. It supports demand‑side management, peak load optimisation, and the effective integration of backup systems such as generators, solar PV, and storage, helping companies reduce unplanned downtime and production losses.
Beyond operational benefits, ISO 50001 certification also strengthens credibility in global value chains, supports ESG and decarbonisation commitments, and improves access to export markets and green finance.
ISO 50001: BUSINESS AND POLICY ALIGNMENT
ISO 50001 is not merely a compliance exercise but a performance‑driven management system. It unlocks low‑cost and no‑cost efficiency improvements, embeds robust measurement and verification practices, and enables data‑driven decision‑making through energy baselines and performance indicators.
At national level, wider adoption of Energy Management Systems contributes to reducing pressure on the national grid, lowering dependence on imported energy, and supporting Zimbabwe’s energy efficiency and climate objectives, while aligning with regional SADC priorities and global decarbonisation trends.
